Fishing Boats of Phang Nga

Kuraburi Pier to the Surin Islands, 2025

Captured while departing from Kuraburi Pier en route to the Surin Islands. The vibrant colours and sheer number of  these magnificent fishing boats immediately caught my attention.

Fishing remains central to life in Thailand’s Phang Nga district. Some boats are not just a means to a livelihood but also serve a vital role in monitoring for tsunamis, a reminder of the 2004 disaster.

Nearby sits the Ban Nam Khem Tsunami Museum, which you can visit to find out more about the devastating effects it had on this region, but it is also a testament to the resilience of the local community.
